For
the 38th consecutive year, Tiffany & Co is creating the Vince
Lombardi Super Bowl Trophy to be presented to the winning team on
Super Bowl Sunday on February 1.
The design features a
regulation-size football made entirely of sterling silver. The
22-inch-high (55.9 cm) trophy weighs nearly seven pounds (3.175 kg)
and takes approximately four months and 72 man-hours to
complete.
Originally designed by Tiffany for the first Super
Bowl in 1967, the trophy is created at Tiffany's silversmithing
workshop in Parsippany, New Jersey, where master artisans employ
age-old techniques to create it, including spinning chasing, hand
engraving, silversmithing and polishing.
Tiffany & Co also
creates trophies for other great sporting events, including the NBA
Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy, the World Series Trophy for Major
League Baseball, and the U.S. Open Tennis Championship
Trophies.
